French Toast

We have a bit of a tradition in our house of making French toast on Christmas morning! I don't make it often because it's a treat, and not terribly healthy, but it is oh so tasty :D


6 slices sourdough bread

1 tsp. cinnamon

1/4 tsp. nutmeg

1-2 Tbsp. sugar (or less if you use syrup and powdered sugar for topping)

4 Tbsp. melted butter

4 eggs

1/4 cup milk

1/2 tsp. vanilla


  1. Melt butter in a cast iron skillet. Mix all ingredients in a shallow dish, such as a pie dish.

  2. Generously dredge both sides of sour dough in the mixture and brown on medium low heat both sides, about 3-4 minutes each side.

  3. Tope with your favorites-- Fruit, syrup, powdered sugar, whipped cream. Serve with bacon because they belong together!
